Traditional style meeting a contemporary need.

 

Our customer was looking for a method of covering radiators, which was in keeping with the property, provided easy access and which could be used as temporary seating.
The picture below illustrates the site of one of the radiators.

 

 

A number of alternatives were considered; finally it was decided to use the idea of a simple early oak style chest which could have many variations, but which nevertheless might be constructed identically for each radiator. This has allowed each cover to be unique in terms of decoration and size, but also provided for a degree of economy, at least in the carcase work.

The sketches below show two of the three final designs that have been used.

Dragon radiator cover for drawing room

The detail for this cover is based on the dragon moteif found on the plaster work in the room and also on the family.

On the opposite end of the cover a grand grotesque based on an original image found in Chinnery

Front panel detail refers to the family members based on the symbolism of the oak tree and its fruits.

 

 

Cover in position. The owners have found that the covers have proved very popular as occasional seating provided both warmth and a view.
